Scarlett Johansson to Cheer on Ryan Reynolds at N.Y. Marathon

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Ryan Reynolds is planning to run the ING New York City Marathon on Sunday – against his better judgment.

“I would sooner be prime minister of the moon than run another marathon,” the actor said in New York on Friday. “I’ve been really lucky. I didn’t have any toenails fall off or anything disgusting like that. I still have all three nipples.”

The actor said his new wife, actress Scarlett Johansson, has been giving him a lot of love and support, and would be there Sunday. “She’ll be on the road somewhere,” he says. “She better be.”

Reynolds started training for the event five months ago because he “is not a born runner.”

He announced in September he would run on behalf of the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

Reynolds credits his father, Jim Reynolds, “who’s spent the last 15 years in a life or death struggle with Parkinson’s Disease.” With his dad as inspiration, Reynolds joined Team Fox and has already raised $80,011.08 for the Foundation’s mission to cure Parkinson’s.

Country singer Mindy McCready released from jail

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Mindy McCready has been released from jail after serving about 30 days for violating probation on a 2004 drug charge. The Williamson County Sheriff’s Department says the country singer was released Friday morning. She only had to serve about half of her 60-day sentence because of credits she received for good behavior and doing janitorial work in the jail.

The 32-year-old singer was accused in June of falsifying her community service records and charged with violating her probation.

McCready received a suspended three-year sentence in 2004 for fraudulently obtaining prescription painkillers.

McCain set for ‘Saturday Night Live’ cameo

Friday, October 31st, 2008

My friends, it’s John McCain, live from New York, just three days before the election. Aides to the Republican presidential candidate said Friday that McCain will make a detour from battleground states to appear on “Saturday Night Live,” the late-night show that has been a must-watch for many during the political season.

Hosting the show this Saturday is actor Ben Affleck, a supporter of Democratic candidate Barack Obama. The musical guest is singer David Cook.

When McCain’s running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, appeared on the show Oct. 18, “Saturday Night Live” earned its best ratings in 14 years. Former star and head writer Tina Fey, a Palin lookalike, has been at the center of the show’s recent parodies of the campaign.

“SNL” regular Darrell Hammond impersonates McCain on the late-night show, now in its 34th season.

McCain last appeared on “Saturday Night Live” in May, after clinching the nomination and while the Democratic primary continued. The 72-year-old Arizona senator joked about his age, saying: “I ask you, what should we be looking for in our next president? Certainly, someone who is very, very, very old.”

When McCain hosted “SNL” in 2002, he mocked singer Barbra Streisand’s political advocacy by performing a medley of her songs.

Obama appeared on “Saturday Night Live” briefly last season but canceled a return for its season opener in September, citing the devastation brought to parts of the country by Hurricane Ike.
